Our trauma informed practitioners are here for you

Have you experienced abuse in your life and are struggling to manage the symptoms of the resulting trauma? For example, you may have ongoing anxiety, flashbacks, problems focusing, an inability to self-care, sleep problems or social isolation. You might also find practical tasks around housing and finance very difficult to manage, along with day to day chores.

Safety Net supports adults and children in Cumbria who have experienced rape, exploitation, sexual and domestic abuse at any time of their lives. We know how difficult the recovery from trauma can be. If you live in Cumbria and the abuse ended more than three months ago, our specialist team of Trauma Informed Practitioners can support you to cope with your feelings and stabilise your life, so your daily life becomes easier.

Our Trauma Informed Practitioners can provide therapeutic and practical support with housing, benefits and health issues, by providing immediate advice and linking you in and liaising with other agencies and services. They can also provide advice around court procedures, including pre-trial advice and support.

Alongside the practical support, the Team will work with you on a 1:1 basis to build your own tools and techniques to help you manage your thoughts and emotions, so you feel less overwhelmed on a daily basis. This can include mindfulness, relaxation, sleep and self-care techniques, as well as psycho-educational work to understand how trauma from abuse can affect our body and brain. Want to find out more? Read more about our trauma informed approach here. You can also read a Day in the Life of a Trauma Informed Practitioner to find out more about how the team work.

People often believe they must remember and re-tell abusive incidents in detail. This is not our approach at Safety Net, we will never encourage you to talk about your traumatic experiences unless you feel this is something you need or want to do.

It doesn’t matter if the abuse happened recently, or in your past (including childhood) – we are here to help you. We can also support children and young people, along with parents.

If you feel we could help you or someone that you are working with, please get in touch today.
